Corporal Jamie Kirkpatrick was 32 years of age. He was born in Edinburgh but lived Llanelli in South Wales.
He enlisted in the Corps of Royal Engineers in September 1997 and following training as a Combat Engineer and trade training as a Plant Operator Mechanic, he was posted to 28 Engineer Regiment in Hameln, Germany.

Four British soldiers have been killed in a vehicle accident in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The soldiers, part of a police advisory team, were killed near Gereshk, Helmand province, on Wednesday evening.
They were travelling to help in an incident at a nearby checkpoint when they died.

The country is preparing to demonstrate its support for the military on the second annual Armed Forces Day.
Events will centre on Cardiff where the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will lead a ceremony which is expected to draw a 50,000 strong crowd.

Eight Turkish soldiers were killed and 14 injured in an attack by Kurdish rebels on a military outpost near Turkey’s border with Iraq, the Turkish military said Saturday.
